I remember as a child sitting on tickly grass making daisy chains. More recently, I enjoy walking through grassy areas near the River Mersey which have an abundance of daisies. They are ‘uncharted’, they grow where they please. I had taken part in a Zoom workshop with Cas Holmes, creating a background and using stitch to create a focus. My focus was ‘daisies’. I have also used blocks of green materials with hand stitched daisies flowing through to complement the blocks made with Cas Holmes. The back of the panel shows a pathway through the greens of the grass.
The Cas Holmes workshop blocks have a mixture of cotton material and paper, with some machine stitching. Other blocks use a variety of cotton materials with the occasional silk material. Various threads used for both hand and machine stitching include perle, stranded cotton and machine thread. It was hand quilted.
