Inspired by the way old walls age, are covered in lichen and growth and sometimes even develop holes. Nature has its own way of returning things to the natural world. Like nature, nothing was planned or laid out – I simply launched into making fabrics and, when an idea came to me, I just went with it. The piece evolved; I wanted to make one that was very different on both sides.
Nothing new was purchased for this; I used only bits of fabrics from my cupboard. Cottons, machine appliqué, free machine work, dyeing, printing using homemade and a few bought stamps, screen printing, rubbings, stencilling, lino cut stamps. Not bound as I wanted to reflect the roughness of decay.
