The deep sea is still largely unexplored. As you descend further from the surface, light becomes scarce and everything becomes dark. Yet life continues and adapts to this environment. It is this transition from the great light to the darkness that I wanted to illustrate in my quilt Abysses.
Hand painted cotton for background; organza and synthetic fabrics cut with a textile iron. Superposition of different fibres (silk, wool, non-woven), small pieces of thread, water soluble embroidery stabiliser, Tyvek, paper, free machine embroidery.
