FRAGMENTATION
Inspiration
My idea was to show the word 'Fragmentation' as fragmenting. The letters are tumbling down my piece, becoming disorganised - twisted and stretching out. To highlight the theme, the letters were not stencilled in full so some are fainter than others. And when machine stitching not all letters were fully outlined. The hand stitches are shorter closer to the lettering but get larger towards the edges, giving the impression of further fragmentation.
Materials and techniques
In portrait format, my piece features the word 'Fragmentation'. I cut out stencils and the image was brushed on with Markal Paintstiks, using both positive and negative images. The letters were outlined in machine stitch and the background was hand stitched with seed stitch using white perle embroidery thread
