ONE FOR SORROW
Inspiration
I was fascinated by the birds in the quilt and also the use of text. I have a lot of magpies in my garden which led to me using them as my own exotic birds, together with the rhyme “One For Sorrow”, associated with these birds. Both the background pattern which is derived from the Maltese crosses and digitally manipulated from my own hand block prints, and the colours used, reference the original quilt.
Materials and techniques
Fabric and wadding 100% cotton
Digitally printed background fabric (outsourced)
Embellished – Angelina and beads
Raw-edge, bonded applique
Free motion quilting
