INFANT MORTALITY
Inspiration
The Bloomfield quilt did not at first inspire me visually, but the messages within it, about the loss of a child, made me look at the period. In 1850 child mortality under 5 years of age was between 30% and 50% in all sections of society. This is much greater than in the previous century. The image was taken from a child's tomb of 1639.
Materials and techniques
Cotton fabric and batting
