MAY ANGELS SING YOU TO YOUR REST
Inspiration
My starting points were the sentimental texts, and I chose two that referred to angels. Angels offered comfort to the bereaved parents and provided an interface between heaven and earth. A blue background was created to represent the sky. I also used the central motif of the quilt, distorted it, and used it as an appliqué shape, with stars and curved lines to surround the angel. Together these create movement. I have included red, the colour of love, and a colour present in the original quilt. Machine quilting adds depth to the angel, and lines around the angel add energy.
Materials and techniques
Background: recycled cotton, printed and painted with acrylic and fabric paints
Angel: ice dyed calico and wax oil crayon
Bonded appliqué
