IN MOURNING
Inspiration
The Edwin and Mary Bloomfield coverlet is a bold statement of colour, shape and text, and this is what inspired my design choices. The quotes give a potent message, so I selected parts of some of the quotes, along with key words to represent in my quilt. The quilting follows angular lines, echoing the squares and crosses in the coverlet’s design. I chose to use paper as a design feature, to reflect the use of paper in traditional piecing as well as it being
a medium for carrying text.
Materials and techniques
Cotton, papers
Low water immersion fibre reactive dyeing
Painting and stamping with fabric and acrylic paints
Fabric dye pencils
Machine and hand stitch
