Journal Quilts
Since 2007 we have organized an annual project where members are invited to commit to making one small journal quilt each month for a whole year. The format changes each year to add interest. For the first time this year there is an added element which has to be added to challenge the imagination and talents of the members. The format in 2012 is A4 and the first four pieces have to contain at least 75% red in all its variations. The second four to contain 75% yellow and the last four 75% blue.
Challenges and Exhibitions
There are regular challenges offered to members leading to exhibitions.
In 2009 The Little Gem Quilts tombola took place at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, and it raised just over £10,000 for the Quilt Museum and Gallery in York.
The last challenge was Pictorial Consequences, a quilter's version of the children's game, which was shown at the Festival of Quilts, NEC, Birmingham, UK last year.
2012 is the group's 10th birthday and a major exhibition of juried quilts, CQ@10, which are based on a photo by Tony Howell of a Cornish Tin Mine, will be premiered at the Festival of Quilts at the NEC, Birmingham in August this year.
