Penicillin
I was struck by what a medical breakthrough the discovery of penicillin had been after my daughter was prescribed with some antibiotics. The penicillin mould reminded me of a strange alien flower and I took this as my design inspiration.
The quilt was dyed, screen and thermofax printed using dye and fabric paint, machine embroidered onto wool felt, and shrunk to create the puckering. A soy wax resist was then applied to protect the white ring whilst the background was sponged with dye paint. it was then machine free motion quilted before couching with various threads, bound with organza, and finally finished with beads.
