A CHILD'S JOURNEY
Inspiration
I've always said that to explain my childhood I needed a flip chart and coloured pens. I have only sad memories of that time, The quilt was a way of working through those feelings, and when I tried to think of the challenge my 'fragmented' childhood came up.
I chose the colour purple to represent myself, as I was once told it was protecting, and it was the opposite of what happened to me. The background words' first letters spell fragmentation and reflect my childhood. The execution is not perfect but again it is to adhere to the theme fragmentation.
Materials and techniques
Recycled sheet, cotton wadding and cotton material. Various DMC cotton threads. I screen printed the sheet and then using bonda web applied the material outlines of the family groups and footsteps, then hand-quilted some areas and added names and phrases.
