Gythion Glow

Based on sketches of the harbour at Gythion (Greece) at sunrise and sunset – yachts and fishing boats silhouetted against the sea, sky and distant mountains.

 
Narrow strips of fabric inserted into blue/black Yukata kimono cotton.  Machine quilted with variegated thread using decorative stitches, twin-needle, and from reverse with cotton perle in bobbin.  Hand stitched with indigo-dyed sashiko thread and hand-dyed cotton perle.

 

Surface painted after quilting with Liquitex heavy body acrylics.
