A-MAZE-IN (G) FRAGMENTATION
Inspiration
A hand dyed spiral shape in cotton which was gifted to me by Ricky Tims.
When I cut a spiral shape it automatically produced 2 spirals. I kept one in sectioned spiral shape. The second piece was cut in sections but placed so that the spiral would not be obvious. The sections were appliquéd on to my own hand dyed cotton using a bonding fabric and outlined with blanket stitch. I machine quilted the piece using echo quilting. The finished quilt reminded me of a maze and the challenge I faced with the theme of Fragmentation!
Materials and techniques
Background - self hand-dyed cotton
Spirals and other shapes cut from tie-dyed cotton by Ricky Tims.
Cotton wadding.
Backing - commercial printed cotton.
Appliquéd using blanket stitch.
Echo quilted using variegated cotton thread.
