All Squared Up
This is my interpretation of snow covered fields and a river meandering through the winter landscape. As I worked this piece took on its own life – the meandering river having straight lines, marshland appeared, the lakes and ponds becoming squares and I just kep adding as the quilt grew under my hands. So now it looks more like a very simple maze than a landscape. This is one of the few quilts I have made, where I have not been in a deep black hole of doubt midway or near the end…Calm and Balance might be another title.
Textured silk, cotton wadding, Vilene, fusible web. Silk threads. Silks can be very lively, so instead of piecing, I have chosen to fuse. The background was quilted by machine. More fusing of squares on top of the quilting. Then quilting the thin blue line and at last adding blue squares. Back |
