Locomotion
Whilst researching images for an entirely different project I happened upon a photograph of the lower part of a Japanese steam train. Running from one side of this image to the other was a strong white angular line that ‘demanded’ my attention. The strong geometric form of the wheels and iron bodywork also appealed.
The finished quilt is a wholecloth; the detail being created either using print (acrylics) and paint techniques (silk paint) or drawn (quilted) using a variety of makes and thicknesses of thread. “It was not my intention to produce a true or accurate representation of a steam train but rather evoke the ‘feeling’ of one.
