ANCIENT AND MODERN
Inspiration
I decided to use ancient mosaic designs, many of which still survive despite becoming damaged and fragmented, over the years.
I love the patterns and can really appreciate the complexity and skills of those who chipped the stones, it was difficult enough using fabrics.
The ‘modern’ piece was made in a workshop in Houston many years ago, using Markal sticks. I found it during lockdown and decided to give it a purpose at last.
Materials and techniques
Hand dyed and thermofax printed fabrics, bonded using Steam a Seam and Heat and Bond Ultra.
Machine quilted background
Plus a piece made using Markal Sticks many years ago
