Land of Two Halves

A recent holiday in New Zealand was the inspiration for this quilt.  The long vertical format fitted with the country’s geographical shape.  There was an abundance of ferns of all sizes growing in both North and South Island seemingly divided by only a thin blue line of water. 

 
Batik and hand-dyed fabric overprinted with fabric paint.  Applique, and machine quilted, the latter inspired by the Maori designs.
