FRAGMENTED STRATA
Inspiration
The inspiration for “Fragmented Strata” came from seeing a Bridget Riley exhibition. I was fascinated by her black and white optical illusions. As an engineering geologist, I have spent some of my working life interpreting geological sequences. I decided to try to create a quilt depicting faulted strata which still, hopefully, gave a similar sense of optical illusion to those of Bridget Riley.
Materials and techniques
Strip pieced hand dyed and commercial fabric.
Machine quilted
