BROKEN PAIN
Inspiration
During the Covid 19 Lockdown of Spring 2020 II felt fragmented from my friends and family and as if the world was broken. The pain of not being able to be close to my family for endless weeks made me feel somewhat broken. Hence the title ‘ Broken Pain’.
My design is of a shattered windowpane. I wanted a dark moody hole of a background. The Crystal organza represents sharp, jagged, splintering shards of glass. I let the edges of some of the pieces fray so that they can be seen as jagged close up too. The simplicity is more dramatic.
Materials and techniques
Crystal organza fused with misty fuse onto pure wine coloured cotton. Thermolam wadding and cotton backing. Machine quilted with white rayon thread and wine cotton thread. Facings.
