FRAYED BLUE DENIM
Inspiration
Originally inspired by Gee's Bend 'Work Clothes' quilts, this quilt uses pieces of worn and torn jeans donated by family members. Responding to 'Fragmentation' I started with working with larger pieces and applied increasingly smaller patches. Some tears were mended; others augmented and developed. Edges were exposed and frayed. Old jeans are soft to handle, but can be hard to stitch, especially when layered.
Materials and techniques:
Materials - Denim Jeans, cotton fabric, cotton and rayon thread, cotton perle thread, cotton/polyester batting, cotton backing fabric.
Techniques - Machine pieced and machine quilted, with hand and machine embroidery.
