LOCKDOWN PUZZLE PIECES
Inspiration
March meeting at Beckenham Quilters a visit by Crafty UK demonstration & samples of templates. Because of his ingenuity & enthusiasm I bought a Jigsaw template. 3 pieces of acrylic which made 6 differing shapes. Downloading a jigsaw sparked the word fragmentation. I chose the background & the colours, made varying size templates & put them on the design board with the word cascade.
Many other projects were completed & many Jigsaws done but not until lockdown eased did I get my final inspiration to finish. I have named it 'Lockdown puzzle pieces' to remind me of 2020.
Materials and techniques
Background cotton sateen tray dyed, the appliquéd puzzle pieces were mainly from a family of dyed yellows to oranges, giving me 15 colours to play with. The background was sandwiched & stitched with a puzzle grid before applying the pieces & machine stitching the raw edges to hold in place. Further outline puzzle pieces machine stitched over the appliqué with a large straight stitch, these were then hand stitched with thicker thread (whip stitch) to give more texture & colour.
