FRAGMENTS OF LIGHT
Inspiration
A pale, partial rainbow near my home, in the weak winter sun. Fragments of light, I thought. Glass objects, particularly the iconic prism, split the light better than sunlight on water and create colours and patterns. I chose fabrics and threads whose colours shift and sparkle as light falls on them. The ray of light moves from solid sections to tiny pieces to bonded threads: the fabric fragments. Light waves form in the quilting.
Materials and techniques
Silk dupion, Japanese silk paper, crystal organza, rayon and metallic threads,
Raw edge appliqué, couching, machine quilting
