Winterton Nights
The horizon is my thin blue line. Fascinated by this apparent line at the visual junction of sea and sky; just water, air and light coming together in a multitude of colour and tonal variations.
Memories of sitting on sand dunes at Winterton, Norfolk, looking east out to sea, catching the early morning sunrise or the moon rising at night. Rain and mist move across the panorama, the storm passes, light shines through breaks in the clouds. Another influence comes from a series of small evocative paintings of sea at night by John E. Brierley (my husband). Subtle silks for the suggestion of glistening water and cotton sateen by Heide Stoll-Weber for the luminous sky. Machine pieced freezer paper foundation construction to keep wayward fabrics under control. Machine quilting. Back |
