Kisses on Concrete!
During the summer I visited a local vineyard and noticed that the carpark, although concrete, was covered in evenly spaced 'X' shaped holes to allow grasses and other plants to grow through. I took some photos and immediately thought of the title for this challenge. In my mind, the grasses and wild flowers were 'breaking through' the concrete base.
I wanted the textured background to represent the concrete so decided to use wadding. This meant that I could add more texture by felting wool and other materials from the back. I've also used my embellishing machine to felt some of the fabrics representing the grasses and flowers. The surface has been heavily machine quilted, often by free machine stitching. There is a small amount of hand stitching and some beading for added detail. Materials: wadding, wool felt, beads Techniques: felting, embroidery, hand stitching, free machine quilting Back |
