SETTLEMENT
Inspiration
A place of shelter among the rocks. While the world fragments and the usual normalities are suspended. The improbable Balancing Rock in the Porongurups and the curvaceous and comically named Elephant Rocks in the far South West of Australia gave me the strong design elements here.
My fragmented life, settling in Australia after a full life lived in the UK. Hidden with self coloured quilting in the top right are Busselton Jetty and Brighton West Pier. One restored, one much fragmented!
Materials and techniques:
Superfine Merino wool, silk fibres. Ribbed silk / linen cloth. Cotton/bamboo wadding. Washed and worn dyed calico backing. YLI variegated machine threads. Ultrafyne translucent blue thread.
Wet felting with wool and silk fibres for the applique shapes. Dyed ribbed cloth used in two directions. Machine quilted.
