Life is for Delight
A morning sun breaks through the clouds and sheds its light over the sea and priory at King Edward's Bay in Tynemouth. For the quilt I have picked out those words from D.H. Lawrence's Kissing and Horrid Strife which reflect my feelings when looking at this glorious scene.
'Life is for delight...when the white sun kisses the sea...the tiny wavelets... tip the morning light on edge, and spill it with delight' I used fabric paint to create the centre panel and covered it with sheer silk. Other techniques used were stenciling with lithocoal; painting scrim; bonding; burning synthetic sheers; hand embroidery - straight stitch for applique and reflections, running stitch, buttonhole and colonial knots; water colour pencils to extend the warm colour into the side panels; machine quilting over the whole quilt.
