Where the Sky Meets the Sea
I have a fascination for the colour intensity of the ‘thin blue line’ where the sea meets the sky. Wherever you are in this country and in almost all weather conditions it seems to be there.
I have taken three different images of the coast: a sandy beach, a grassy headland and a pebbly shore with beach huts. Each one was separately made in fabrics and then the three were slashed with wave like curves and stitched together in sequence. Once the abstract ‘picture’ was created I returned to the three original pictures and reinstated the direction lines of sand, sea and grass by machine quilting using variegated threads. The beach huts are stitched with lines to suggest weatherboards. Back |
