Geological Time Series - Triassic Era
I am fascinated by contrasts and so I relish the challenge of expressing the hardness, durability and strength of rock through the medium of fabric and thread. In this second quilt of a series inspired by Dorset and Devon’s World Heritage Coast, I have chosen to concentrate on using surface decoration to express the erosion and weathering of the rocks that have been scoured by wind and water for over 200 million years. The boundary between quilting and embroidery is like a tightrope that is difficult to tread, yet I believe that my work is that of a quilter first and an embroiderer second, uniting both traditions in a contemporary but understated way.
