Interruptions
‘Interruptions’ was initially inspired by the ‘threadcatchers’ I use between seams – layers of scrap fabric to run the stitching onto, to avoid having long, loose ends everywhere. After several sewing sessions, these small scraps build up rich layers of different coloured threads. Scrappy, unwanted, filling the gaps between ‘important’ seams, they nevertheless acquire a beauty all their own. The challenge was to build them up into a piece that incorporates the gaps / fissures that are part of their nature. Pulled together as the focus of a piece of their own, they remind me of the potential of the interruptions in our conversations, in our lives…
