Persephone's Pomegranate 3
I am interested in the Persephone myth. She was seized by Hades, God of the Underworld, through a great crack in the earth, and ravaged – she languished until her Earth Goddess mother negotiated her return to the upper world by causing the seasons to fail. But she was still bound to return to Hades for four months every year because, in her relief at her release, she had eaten pomegranate seeds – the fruit of the dead.
The myth probably tells of a devastating earthquake or volcanic eruption in ancient times. Hand dyed cottons and sateens, screen-printed, stamped and discharge printed. Pieced and machine quilted. Back |
