Gillian Travis My Uncharted Journey of Love and Loss
Following my son’s death in 2018, I sought support and guidance from many sources. The quotes stitched in this quilt gave me direction and permission to enjoy life. I have always loved to travel, as did Will; being able to see the world helped me cope. I climbed mountains, slept under the stars in the desert, taught in Australia, and had many other amazing experiences. Making this quilt has been painful but also cathartic. The images are all taken from my photographs. Post Covid, I hope to be able to continue to travel and advance my uncharted journey.
Machine stitched calico, painted using acrylic paints and inks with additional Inktense crayons used for details and shading. Wool viscose felt wadding. The hand writing on the back was achieved by adding a false back to the quilt.
