GLOWING GEOMETRY
Inspiration
The overall medallion composition of the Bloomfield Coverlet with its central hexagon and its radiating geometric shapes forms the basis for my design. Also reflected is the coverlet’s use of a boundary border and a red/blue colour range. The design is based on a segmented circle with radiating lines morphing into a lozenge shape to fit the quilt’s dimensions. The secondary design in the corners, if tiled or blocked together, tessellate into a petal like pattern, similar to geometric Islamic type decorative patterns. The intense central colours are counter balanced by a subtle blush in the corners.
Materials and techniques
Commercial cotton top and satin underlining
Hand dyed sateen.
Machine quilting
Fabric dye pencils and oil paint sticks
The quilt is reversible
