Alicia Merrett
www.aliciamerrett.co.uk Colour is my passion and my quilts reflect this; my inspiration comes from subjects such as the natural and urban environments, literature and history. More recently I rediscovered the fascination of maps, which I believe to be an ancient and important part of mankind’s need to interpret and understand the world. So currently I am working on a series on quilted maps, some based in reality, and some imaginary. |

Barbara Howell
www.barbarahowell.co.uk I see myself as an embroiderer who makes quilts and as a designer craftsperson. I have been a member of the Quilters Guild for thirty years and of the Embroiderers' Guild for over thirty-five years. I have learned so much from attending meetings and workshops and sharing with like-minded people. I make many kinds of quilts but there are certain subject areas that recur - like floors, rugs and roses and details like the way I use fringes and borders and piping. Another strand is my use of heavily embroidered or manipulated fabrics and my hand dyed materials. I also like to use a great variety of techniques in the same piece. Recently much more of my work can properly be seen as embroidery and is often better presented as panels than as wall hangings. I have contributed to several magazines and wrote a book about using Celtic sources of inspiration. I have had a number of one person exhibitions as well as contributing to group shows. I have travelled all over the U.K. to share my enthusiasm and experience in talks and workshops and I really do enjoy the chance to do a ‘one person show and tell’ and to encourage people to try something new. |

|
Kate Dowty
www.katedowty.com I work with fabric and thread to create quilted wallhangings. Some pieces are very simple, others are heavily embellished; some are inspired by the world around me, while for others the cloth itself provides inspiration. All are colourful. I particularly enjoy the textural effects that result from adding stitch to pieced cloth. I enjoy experimenting with dyeing and painting fabric which is then incorporated into my work. The beautiful region I live in provides an ongoing source of themes to be recreated in fabric and stitch: the spectacular cliffs on our World Heritage Jurassic Coast, the ever changing ocean and the patchwork of small fields and pastureland all offer daily inspiration. |

www.loisbellewtextiles.weebly.com My work is inspired by issues that touch me personally, currently environmental pollution and the serious issue of plastic residue in our ecosystem. My own emotional response and my art textile experience equips me to illustrate many issues in this area that may otherwise be unknown by the majority. Using photographic and sketchbook studies I use stitch and mixed media to produce 2D and 3D work with texture and colour; great importance is held to the use of reclaimed or found objects in the work where appropriate. |
|
Maggi Birchenough
www.maggi21handdyes.com I have had had a passion for fabric and threads since I was a small child. During my quilting journey I discovered the joy of dyeing my own fabric and threads and have been using little else for the last 20 years. Adding further surface design to the dyed cloth often informs and inspires my work. Embroidery, however, still retains its allure for me and often it is the unpredictable variegation of the hand dyed threads that adds interest to a piece. Fabrics and threads are for sale on this site. |

A chance meeting, in Saudi Arabia, in 1996 led to a short quilting course, after which clothing became less interesting and quilting an all-consuming passion.
